Congressman Bowman Votes to Condemn Sexual Violence against Israeli Women, Calls Attention to Erasure of Sexual Violence against Palestinians
For Immediate Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This evening, the House voted on H.Res. 966 to condemn acts of rape and sexual violence as weapons of war, including those acts committed by Hamas.
“Today I voted for H.Res. 966 to condemn all instances of sexual violence committed by Hamas,” said Congressman Jamaal Bowman, Ed.D. (NY-16). “I condemn sexual violence and gender-based violence in all its forms and the appalling experiences being shared are truly devastating. Any group or individual that weaponizes sexual violence must be held to account. This resolution fails to acknowledge and condemn the decades of gender-based violence and sexual violence that Palestinian people have faced in their communities and as they are held in Israeli prisons. Every survivor, whether Israeli or Palestinian, deserves justice, empathy, and healing, not just a select few. We need to come together to condemn all instances of sexual violence in war zones and work towards a ceasefire of the ongoing violence. Our collective humanity depends on it.”
